For our first week, we welcome Zapotec Weavers which were found at a local SoCal pop-up market. Initially, heir detailed garments and accessories stood out to me, but their family business story truly captivated me in the end.
“Hello, we are The Zapotec Weavers, a third generation of Zapotec weavers from the central valleys of Oaxaca, Mexico. Our business was born during the pandemic of 2020, where we decided to help our family back home sell their woven pieces because of the shutdown in their village. Our work includes woven rugs, bags, wallets, and other woven accessories. We are proud to be representing our ancestral work of art. As a BIPOC and Zapotec owned business, it’s our responsibility to represent our brown folks and create generational wealth for our future generations. Our goal is to grow stronger as a family business in hopes to one day run our own shop, creat more jobs in our village, and invest in our Zapotec community.”
