Summer may be over, but there is something so peaceful about soaking up the sun and breathing in fresh air; it gets me every time! So when I am craving sunlight directly on my skin but don’t want too much exposure, finding the best skin protector has been a top priority! So what factors come into play?

Well, considering what skin type you have or personal sensitivities, learning the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens and what they do, and understanding what ingredients are involved, are good factors to start off with.
Most people really aren’t aware of the effects that sunscreen has directly on the environment or your skin. It can be tough to decipher the best option with all the information available online and how many products are being marketed right now.
what does toxic, nontoxic, or all-natural sunscreen include? Is there truly a difference?
These factors are important to keep in mind because our skin can be sensitive to specific ingredients, which leads to breakouts and frequent irritations. The list below will depend on your preference and skin type, but here are some of my suggestions:
Mexoryl SX – which is usually found in chemical sunscreens and is used to block against the sun’s rays that cause aging.
Titanium dioxide, a fine white powder that occurs naturally, and is considered safer than other sunscreen chemicals. Since TI doesn’t permeate through skin it doesn’t stand as a risk for exposure. This ingredient is found not only in sunscreens, but also products like makeup and cosmetic lines.
Zinc Oxide, known as a white inorganic compound that is great for sensitive skin types since it is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores!
A popular mineral sunscreen that provides protection against UV rays, while still containing ingredients like rose apple leaf extract to keep your skin healthy. It has a light consistency that is water and oil resistant, making it a great must have!
A reputable sunscreen brand that offers a lightweight, clear, and oil free mineral lotion that protects the skin from damage. With main ingredients including red algae that defends against blue light, and meadowfoam seed for hydration.
A well known brand that offers sunscreen that provides UVA and UVB protection without ingredients like oxybenzone. With vitamin E to neutralize free radicals and aloe to soothe your skin while you smell like a tropical coconut. Great for long days at the beach.
Ingredients to Avoid
Retinyl palmitate, commonly known as the ingredient to speed the process of skin tumors in combination with the sun’s rays.
Oxybenzone, a common chemical in sunscreen that is deemed FDA approved but has been a concern to the environment and linked to causing skin allergies and irritants.
Octinoxate (octyl methoxycinnamate) and Homosalate, which are known to have high levels of toxicity and lead to issues with hormonal imbalance and disruption.
