What is self-love and what does it mean to you? For me, it represents authenticity and acceptance of not only inner beauty, but also the imperfections that make me whole. It is remembering to celebrate our big and small wins, and learning from our losses. Letting go of what no longer serves you, whether it is ending a toxic relationship or simply not allowing negative energy to interfere with your happiness.
Practicing saying no, being picky with your time and who you spend it with is so important. We all have been guilty of holding on to people, places, or things that no longer bring us any value. We are more than halfway through 2021; when are you finally going to make yourself a priority?
Take a moment to get to know yourself on a deeper and personal level and figure out what should no longer be accepted. To find love within yourself is much easier said than done, requiring patience, effort, and consistency. You would be surprised with how difficult this concept is to grasp and how often we push our feelings beneath the surface to shy away from our reality. It is okay to feel lost, consumed by comparison, and buried by your past, yet still, find hope and power in how far you’ve come.
Ask yourself honestly, do you remind yourself of how worthy and deserving you are regardless of what you have been through?
Here are some self-love tips to help you along your journey:
Self-reflection – Walk up to a mirror and take a few minutes to stare back at yourself. Who do you see? What do you think of this person? Do you have more negative than positive thoughts about yourself? Write down what you see.
Positive affirmations – We underestimate the power of our mind and how much of an effect our inner dialogue can be on our mental state. Be conscious of the way you speak to yourself and practice positive self-talk. Repeat after me,
“I love every inch of me and admire my strength.” Write down a list of all the qualities that you love about yourself, and take 5-10 minutes each day to repeat this until you believe it.
Visualization – Envision all of your dreams, aspirations, and the life you want to live is right in the palm of your hand, and take action. Use the power of daydreaming and manifestation to support those thoughts and believe in the process.
Gratitude – Find a room to sit in silence and show appreciation for your body and what it endures. As silly as this sounds, give thanks from your head to your toes and hug yourself more. Be mindful of what you think, feel, or do, and create the energy you want to be surrounded by.
