The Science Behind Positive Affirmations
Most likely you have heard about positive affirmations and mantras (I’m guessing that’s what brought you here!), but have you heard just how powerful their effects on the brain are? Recent studies in Neuroscience have proven their success rate, and today we’ll explain how using positive affirmations can greatly impact the quality of your life and well-being.
Positive affirmations are positive statements that reprogram our subconscious mind and belief systems. What we believe on a subconscious level has an intrinsic connection with what we experience in our lives.
But the problem with subconscious belief is that we are not always aware of it! We may want to believe something good is going to happen to us, but on a subconscious level perhaps we doubt ourselves and our worth.
So how can we change that?
A 2016 study through Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience proved that through Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), repeating positive affirmations to oneself activates the brain’s reward centers. These reward centers are what stimulate states of pleasure, contentment, and happiness. Positive affirmations have also been proven to decrease stress and increase self-esteem, which are two key components in rewriting belief systems.
When the brain is processing information, it doesn’t differentiate between what is thought and what is reality. Consistent positive affirmation can encourage your brain to adapt to new ideas and belief systems.
If we want to transform our lives, we need to read, write, and speak positive affirmations daily.
That is one of the reasons why I created the Soulwork Journal – a blank lined journal ideal for writing down your positive affirmations with empowering mantras & quotes throughout.
The Soulwork Journal is the perfect tool you need to get started on your consistent positive affirmation practice. And don’t worry if you get stuck or experience moments of doubt, because your inspiration will be renewed by the pre-written affirmations you will find every 5 pages.
